To the Jew First and Also the Greek
Last month Dan and I were privileged to minister at a Israel/Greek conference in Thessalonica that was arranged by a dear servant of the Lord, Greta. Greta has had a burden to see the destiny of Greece and Israel come to fullness. In preparation for this conference I read through large portions of the New Covenant and was surprised by the prominence the Greeks had as being the firstfruits of those receiving the gospel message. From the beginning God ordained that there would be an integral connection between the Jews and Greeks. This trip for us was a step forward in restoring this important relationship. We made some very important connections with key church leaders and are working toward an eventual national conference.
One of the highlights of this time was a prophetic act that took place. When I read 2 Corinthians 8:1-14 I was impressed by how the churches of Macedonia received an offering to give to the poor of Jerusalem.
“In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.” (2 Corinthians 8:2-4).
Even though they themselves were in a season of hardship they graciously gave to help relieve the suffering of the Messianic Jews in Jerusalem! Then when I continued to read the Scripture this verse deeply moved me, verse 14: “At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need.” I had an immediate quickening in my spirit that we were to receive an offering from Revive Israel (representing Messianic believers from Jerusalem) and bring it to the pastor who was hosting this conference. It was a way of expressing our deep gratitude for the sacrifice of their people 2000 years ago. Since Greece was in financial difficulties and it seemed the set time by the Lord to sow into this this great people. When this gift was presented to the pastor he was moved beyond words. Usually when Messianic Jews go to a place to minister they seek an offering…but this time we gave an offering! Please keep these new relationships in your prayers as these steps, along with others who preceded us, are just the beginning.
