Dr. Daniel and Patricia Juster's
Personal Update and Prayer

Dan and I are in a situation that we would like to avoid, but it is not possible.  Dan is in the United States for meetings and I am back in Israel.  Here is a note from Dan in the States.

Dan: My itinerary began with a time of preaching at Eitz Chaim Congregation in Dallas, led by my old friend Rabbi David Schiller.  I have had a relationship with David going back to before he planted the congregation and have enjoyed fellowship with his family.  The message on “The Identity of Israel and the Church” was very well received.  We enjoyed an excellent time of fellowship with the leaders following the service.

My itinerary continued with a preaching time at a very large and vibrant church under Pastor Jeremy White and overseen as well by his brother Joey White: Stonewater Church in Granbury, Texas.  This church has four services on Sunday, beginning at 8 AM.  It is a bit of a challenge to present the message four times, but it went remarkably well.  The leaders of Stonewater were already very drawn to Israel and the Messianic Jewish community.  Indeed, Joey White was in Israel at the time I was with his brother.  We believe that this will be a long term relationship.  I originally met Joey White at the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders that meets the first week in November.

So that leads to my present situation where I am at the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders meetings.  I was a plenary speaker last year, but this year I am involved in personal relationship building and presenting our many books at a book table.  There is a very strong international presence, especially from Hispanic Countries, but also some from Africa and Europe.

Next week, I will be in Maryland for our American leadership team meeting.

Patty: Hate is a very strong word with far reaching ramifications.  One of the definitions of “hate” is: “to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward.” When we say that we hate something or someone, it hardens the heart towards that to which we have directed our hatred.  For example: if I say that I hate vegetables, it closes my heart and mind to the possibility of ever liking spinach or any other vegetable even if I were “forced” to eat it.  It is easy to understand this principle of hardening our heart when we say that we “hate” someone.  Love is shut down to both receiving and giving love to that person.  Little understood, however, is the fact that if we hate a brother or sister then in reality we hate God because the other is made in the image of God.  And that short-circuits our ability to receive from and to give love to God. That is why Scripture says that if we hate another then the love of God is not in us.  We are told to even love our enemies.  About the only things we are commanded to hate in Scripture are evil, perverse speech, pride and arrogance.  “To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech” (Proverbs 8:13).  “Let all those who love the Lord hate evil” (Psalm 97:10).  “I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it” (Psalm 101:3).  “Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts” (Amos 5:16).  How appropriate to harden our heart towards sin so we will not be open to temptation.  We are to passionately hate and despise sin … not people!  We are to passionately and unconditionally love others, no matter what their actions.

If what I have said is true about hate, then that is why saying that gay marriage, homosexuality, immorality, slander, lying, cheating, etc. are wrong brings us under the world’s judgment that we are committing a hate crime … that we are being judgmental.  Yet, the very ones who claim that we are using hate speech, are acting out rage and spewing out hateful words towards those who stand for righteousness.  Stating that an action is sinful or evil does not fit the above definition of hate.  However, the actions and attitudes of those who come against Christians and conservatives with vitreous words and violence, do fit the definition of hate.  Mike Brown recently wrote an article that you can read on his blog site, www.stream.org, entitled: “Why So Much Hatred Against Christians in America Today.”  He states four basic reasons and then expounds on them.
  • It is the natural fruit of the new “harsh” atheism of today
  • This hatred is the result of the modern culture wars where Christians are attacked for their stand against abortion, LGBT agenda, and gay marriage or trans-genderism.  Often they are called bigots, racists, Nazis or haters.
  • Evangelical Christians are lumped together with President Trump and are accused of getting on board with every decision he makes.
  • And lastly, we are just living in a time where darkness increasingly hates the light.
Therefore, may we be on guard and bring our hearts and speech in line with God’s Word and continue to do good.  Though we live in treacherous times, we can be at peace and live a life pleasing to God. Yeshua said that in this life we will have persecution and others will hate us because of the testimony we bear.

Thank you again for all your love and support this past month!
With love,
Dan and Patty
