What is the greatest impact the believer can make in times of hardship? I’m reminded of Hebrews 12:12-15 that exhorts us to: “strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble. And make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame will not be pulled out of joint but rather be healed. Pursue shalom with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and see to it that no bitter root springs up and causes trouble, and by it many be defiled.” (TLV)
These words are challenging. It seems that pursuing shalom and living a holy life are keys to revealing the Lord to a fallen world. Seeking peace is not caving in agreement with sinful behavior or ignoring the suffering of the oppressed. But we need to discern God’s will and ask how God intends to use these situations for His glory. What opportunities for the Gospel are uniquely available in this moment? How might we pursue greater intimacy with the Source of Life, so that His transforming power overflows from us as rivers of Living Water? Ask the Lord how to actively apply these instructions from Hebrews in your own life, so that you might reveal the grace of the Lord in the midst of conflict and upheaval to those around you.
A personal update. Our international move to Jacksonville, FL, from Israel is almost complete. Thank you for your faithful and continued prayers for our family as we make this transition. International moves can be challenging, and of course, the ongoing complexities of the coronavirus also impacted our move. But praise God! I would say that we are now about 80% through the logistics of the relocation. Our shipping containers do not arrive until late September. But this has provided space for us to find a rental home, purchase a used car, and replace appliances that will work on US power.
In many ways, we have hit the ground running. Lorena and I have already had several key meetings with local pastors and leaders. I continue to coordinate several alignment projects for Tikkun Global. One such project is the effort to get five-fold leaders to commit to basic standards of integrity and accountability. This is not publicly launched yet, but you can see the website and a list of the leaders who have signed on to serve as originators here: www.ifli.co.
In the coming weeks, I will also be participating in and ministering during several upcoming online prayer and High Holiday events. Please keep this in prayer as well. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to learn more and/or to sign up to join us.
